Sally Cays' Watercolor Workshops

FEBRUARY, 2010

This is the first Email newsletter I've tried and I'm really excited about the possibilities.  It means that I can be in contact with you about new ideas, classes, and workshops that are happening or are about to happen, and there's much to tell you about in this first of many newsletters.
     A New Kind of Workshop
WHERE?

In my home, in my studio.  Since I've remodeled and re-arranged my studio space I've found that I have room to teach a maximum of 3 students at a time.  This means that I can give intensive, semi-private classes in the same format as I've used for my workshops.

I've done this once already with two students, one very advanced and one who, in her own words, has never painted anything except a house and her fingernails.  The advanced student did the painting on watercolor board which she had never used before, so that was an adventure for her.  The total beginner walked through the process with me and was amazed by what she painted.  She got as much individual attention as she could stand.

First Semi-Private Workshop

WHEN?
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the first and third week of any month.  Also, I'll be able to do weekend classes, Saturday and Sunday, and then the following Saturday.  So each workshop will be 3 days, 9 AM to 3 PM.  If the students get tired we can quit early, or if they're on a roll we can work later.  We'll have much more flexibility with this format.

YOU HAVE THE CHOICE

For beginners, those of you who may have painted in school or never painted at all and want to try something new, stimulating, and fun, I can teach you skills and techniques which will be useful regardless of the style you ultimately choose for your own work.

If you want an advanced workshop and have someone else to do it with you, schedule it.  At first I'm going to repeat old workshops, but if you've already taken those and want something new...I'm willing to start with you and go through the process.

We can also set up a time for you to come in and work on something you have going on your own, and I'll be there with help, support, and demonstrations if you're having problems you need to work out.  A kind of an open studio approach is what I visualize for that.

HOW MUCH?
Since I won't be renting another place to teach or sending out increasingly expensive mass mailings, I can lower the cost of the workshops to the original price that I charged years ago, $180.00.  I also plan to stay in contact with my mailing list primarily by these email newsletters.  For former students who have no computer access I will be sending out some copies of this newsletter by snail mail, but that's just a very limited list
REGISTRATION
 HOW DO YOU REGISTER?

Since I've never done a workshop this way before, I'm not too sure about how this part is going to work.  I'm setting up a tentative schedule here (not carved in stone) and you tell me what you want beyond that.  Remember, I can only take 3 people at a time, so call me to register for one of these, or let me know what you want to do for the future.  Please be patient, this is as new for me as it is for you - but I'm sure we can make it work even better than the old format workshops.

Intermediate workshops will work the same as the advanced workshops; I'll send you the line drawing and you'll have your image traced and the paper stretched ahead of time.  These classes are for the people who have already taken one of my workshops, and have the basics under their belts.  The Image will be the same size as the beginning classes paint, but will be more complex or difficult, so on average will take more time which is why you'll come to class ready to start painting.

Please call me as soon as you can to register for one of these or to tell me what you'd rather do.  If you want an advanced workshop you might have to wait awhile for me to paint a new 11 X 15" advanced painting. I've only done two advanced workshops and most of my advanced students have taken both of those
